Artist work

‘At the core of our work is endless walks; an exercise in being there in the lands with body and mind.’

We have found great love for the edibility and fragrance (wild) flora offers us, through applications in healthcare, both historically and in all its future possibilities. The use of these elements are specifically selected to empower the body or brain, combined with their base in medicine, tradition or folkloric beliefs; their cultural purpose will be put to new use, as a new method to adopt nature, delivered by the experience we design.

By matter of drinking, vaporising, touch and massage, well-being becomes the intention, and a wholesome way to experience time and place and find a new respect for what is given us. Bringing nature back into our bodies, consciously caring for ourselves with nature's strength. Therefore we work under the subtitle “Atelier voor Landschap en Lichaam”; ‘Atelier for Landscape and Body’.

Understanding the cycle of life through walking and foraging, we’ll find out that the relation between human and nature has to be reciprocal, so a part of the new rituals will be giving back what we took, sharing knowledge on natural solutions, without going too much into cultivating nature again. By nature-based healing power, combined with human rites, we rehabilitate our current state of mind, as well as build awareness for our environment.

Since 2016, we have had a close collaboration with Theatre Rotterdam, where through the editions of Club Imagine, eight times a year a walkabout around the premises of the theatre would end with a toast to the theme of the evening, based on art, ecology and climate change. We have delivered endless in-depth, interactive moments to instigate the crowd to step out of their comfort zone and take the perspective of nature, presented through our drinks.

Next to these exciting moments, multiple artists in residencies have provoked a deep relation with certain areas in Europe, from the new estuaries of NL Delta to the Alpine peaks of the Mont Blanc Massif. The relationship we have with water, from source to sea, and plant life at all heights available, but both as border crossing elements, are the carrier of our journeys into the revelations our surroundings offer.

Our residential work comprises extensive in-situ research, to local heritage workshops with the close community, to the formulation of a collection of cures with each of them, a rite of application, leading towards reconciliation with our current times and the state of our environment, towards a hopeful and resilient future.
